From Vidya Balan to Ileana D'Cruz: Celebs who were victims of fan abuse

Bollywood stars and their fans have always shared a symbiotic relationship. Without fans, there can be no stars. However, some eager admirers take the admiration to unwarranted levels. In pursuit of their favourite idols, they tend to become obsessive and abusive. Unfortunately, some Bollywood celebs have become easy targets of this abuse. While some were left aghast, the others immediately brought the incident to public notice and slammed the attackers. Let’s take a look at few celebs who became victims of such incidents.

While she was promoting her film ‘Badshaaho’ a fan apparently misbehaved with the actress. Ileana immediately took to Twitter to express her anguish over the incident. In a series of tweets, she wrote, "It's a pretty shitty world we live in. I'm a public figure. I understand that I don't have the luxury of a private and an anonymous life. But that doesn't give any man the right to misbehave with me. Don't confuse "fan antics" with that. I am a WOMAN at the end of the day."

She not only kicks up bad guys on-screen but also slaps them black and blue in real life. Priyanka Chopra once revealed that she had slapped a fan on the sets of ‘Anjaana Anjaani’. The actress was quoted saying, "I slap a lot. I think once a fan misbehaved with me, I don’t know if he was a fan but, I came out of my trailer when I was shooting for ‘Anjaana Anjaani’. He just came and held my arms. I am very good with taking pictures and everything, but I don’t like physically being touched. So he just held my hand and started asking for pictures. I got really scared so I grabbed his collar and slapped him. Then I got so scared, I ran away."

There’s not an ounce of doubt that Kareena Kapoor Khan is the most sought after celebrity and has fans eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of her. However, such fandom has its own pros and cons. Kareena was once reportedly manhandled at an event. A few fans tried to touch her inappropriately, but Bebo kept her cool and fled the spot. A similar incident took place on the sets of ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’when Kareena found herself crushed in between a mob.

The otherwise level-headed Anushka Sharma displayed a fiery side at an awards function once, when she was allegedly abused by a fan. There was apparently an irritating fan who kept following her. He forcibly asked questions and made random queries too. The actress, who was quite troubled by this, immediately shoved him away.

Vidya Balan once had an unpleasant experience at the Kolkata airport when a fan requested to click a selfie with her. Being the fan-friendly celebrity she is, Vidya reportedly obliged the fan's request and agreed to pose with him. However, things took an ugly turn when he got too close for comfort. When he put his arm around her once again, Vidya hit back, asserting, "This is wrong". According to reports, Vidya admitted that she is a "public figure", but also pointed out that she is "not public property".

In 2008, Sushmita Sen started receiving expensive gifts from an anonymous fan. This was followed by multiple threats by the stalker to marry him. She also received murder threats. The actress then filed a police complaint against him. This wasn’t the only incident. When the star was attending an event in Pune, it had been reported that the former beauty queen was surrounded by fans, one of whom reached out and allegedly groped her while she was getting into her car.

It came as a shocker when a person as docile and happy-go-lucky as Genelia D’Souza slapped a fan in public. Back in 2010, when the actress was inaugurating a showroom in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, one admirer had funny ideas. He tried to touch the actress inappropriately upon which she gave a tight one to the offender. The police nabbed the fellow in a jiffy.

On her way back post the promotions of her film ‘Tees Maar Khan’, Katrina Kaif was attacked by a mob of fans. The crazy fans were trying to touch her, and the number increased to an extent where there was no control of the security personnel. Thank god for co-star Akshay Kumar, who came to the actress’s rescue by shielding her with his arms.

Kangana Ranaut was once attacked by a man who had a crush on her. The crazy fan sent her gifts and letters, but the actress ignored all of it. However, he was finally arrested when he followed her to the gym and tried to harm her.

This incident took place when Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush were at a movie hall to view the audience’s reaction to their movie ‘Raanjhanaa’. As much as the stars were happy to receive optimistic reviews of their movie, Sonam was taken by shock when she was severely mobbed by fans right outside the hall. The fans had overpowered the security guard and were trying to get close to Sonam. Finally, Dhanush took the responsibility of escorting the lady back safely.

After unveiling a special edition of a magazine, Deepika Padukone was on her way back home, when she was mobbed by fans who tried to touch her inappropriately. Thankfully, with the help of her security, Deepika fled the scene.
